Filip Surmont

Dr. Filip Surmont, M.D., is the founder Element Eleven, a global life science consultancy company.   He brings over 18 years of pharmaceutical leadership experience combined with 16 years of clinical practice, during which he has driven transformative change in healthcare delivery across established and emerging markets. He is a recognized leader in cardiovascular, metabolic, and renal diseases with a proven track record of scaling innovative solutions that improve patient outcomes and reshape clinical practice.

Dr. Surmont’s career is distinguished by his ability to bridge clinical innovation with sustainable implementation at a systems level. His leadership of the groundbreaking ACT on HF program in China resulted in guideline-directed medical therapy for 200,000 heart failure patients and contributed to transforming dapagliflozin into a blockbuster drug. He implemen ted the Anti-Inflammatory Reliever (AIR) strategy for asthma, leading to a paradigm shift that has impacted 50 million patients globally and changed international treatment guidelines.

Prior to founding Element Eleven, Dr. Surmont held senior positions at Wyeth and Pfizer and progressive leadership roles at AstraZeneca at the global level and across emerging markets, Latin America, the the United States and China, consistently delivering clinical practice-changing outcomes and building high-performing teams across diverse healthcare systems.

Dr. Surmont received his medical degree from the University of Ghent, where he also studied Tropical Medicine and earned a Master in Sports Medicine.
